Free Festival Hosts Films From Over 20 Countries
Toronto - Who needs Hollywood when you can find talent like this in your own
backyard?
The Regent Park Film Festival is gearing up for another exciting year of
diverse films, created by young directors, editors, and producers from the
community. The Nov. 5th - 8th program also promises to deliver international
films produced as far away as Afghanistan and Australia.
"This year's festival is particularly exciting for us, because local and
international emerging and established directors will be in attendance, from
the Yukon, Bella Coola, Nairobi, Burundi, Kabul and NYC," says Festival
Director Karin Hazé.
The festival has several new highlights including:
Animation Workshop (Nov 1-2)
With visual artist Jason J. Brown, director Cayle Chernin, and actor Dwight
McFee.
Featured Guests (Nov 6, 7:30 pm)
Street nurse, Caroline Brunt, will present Bevel Up, a documentary directed
by Canada's Nettie Wild and co-produced by the National Film Board's and
Regent Park Community Health Centre.
Mustafa Kia, documentary filmmaker from Afghanistan, will present his film
Gol pary.
Panel Discussion (Nov 8, 1 pm)
A lively conversation exploring issues around relocation. Featuring
community activist and writer, Helen Jefferson Lenskyj and Regent Park
community residents.
Performances
Juno award-winning dub poet Lillian Allen and producer, artist and activist
Jarret Prescott will give a performance to remember at the Dominion on Queen
Restaurant (Nov 8, 10pm, 500 Queen St. E.)
All screenings are at Nelson Mandela Park Public School. Screenings and
childcare are free.

RPFF is a non-profit cultural and educational media arts organization. We
foster an artistic presence in the Regent Park community, where there are
limited creative outlets. We work to reduce the effects of poverty
